Each year more and more people are turning to injectable cosmetic procedures to help achieve a more youthful appearance. If you are considering BOTOX® Cosmetic to combat the signs of aging you need to learn more about it. The following set of frequently asked questions will help get you started.

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® cosmetic is an injectable agent that is approved by the FDA to treat wrinkles. The agent is a diluted form of a toxin called Botulinum type A. The concentration used in BOTOX® injections has been used safely in cosmetic procedures since 2002.

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic used for?

BOTOX® injections are primarily used to treat wrinkles on the face, but they are also approved for use in a number of other treatments including migraines, back pain, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms of the face, neck, and vocal cords.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

BOTOX® injections block the nerve impulses, causing the muscles to relax and diminishing the appearance of wrinkles related to repetitive facial movements.

What happens during a BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure?

During the BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure, a series of injections are made in the area you want treated. Most people find that the BOTOX® injections are relatively painless. Unlike invasive cosmetic surgery procedures, BOTOX® Cosmetic does not require any recovery time, so patients can continue with normal activity immediately following the procedure.

How long does BOTOX® Cosmetic last?

BOTOX® injections are not permanent. The results will last anywhere from three to six months. When the results begin to fade you can get touch-up injections to maintain the results.  If appropriate, BOTOX® Cosmetic can be combined with other procedures, such as facelift surgery, to achieve more extensive facial rejuvenation results.
