Hair Replacement and Restoration with Follicular Unit Micrografting
For the vast majority of patients interested in hair replacement and restoration, thinning hair can be blamed squarely on genetics. An Advanced Hair Restoration Technique
Whereas punch grafts involved transplanting larger clumps of hair and were notorious for producing a “corn crop” effect, each follicular micrograft contains only one to three individual hair follicles. The Michael Horn Center for Cosmetic Surgery offers advanced hair replacement through this state-of-the-art restoration procedure at its Chicago practice. Follicular unit micrografting is effective for both male and female patients.
The Micrografting Procedure
A local anesthetic is administered prior to the micrografting treatment so that the patient remains comfortable and relaxed. A minute amount of tissue and hair follicles is then removed from an area in the back of the patient’s scalp.
Using a microscope, a special blade, and forceps, the professionals at the Michael Horn Center for Cosmetic Surgery will then carefully extract “micro” grafts of one to three hair follicles each from the tissue. After tiny incisions are made precisely where the hair will be transplanted, the micrografts are implanted on the patient’s scalp. The micrografting procedure is effective because hair is transplanted in the way that it occurs naturally - in follicular units of one to three hairs each.
